I just read this post by Phil Cooke called “Subtle Self-Congratulations on Twitter”.

Aughh…he wrote in words what has been upsetting me for awhile.  I thought that maybe I would get over it by now, but I haven’t.  Why do people, especially Christians, feel the need to pat themselves on the back for everything they do and for all they accomplished?

Now, I understand that we are “co-partnering” with God (as some circle of Christians may put it), and the importance of making sure we are not allowing for “false humility” in our lives; but in some cases, I have to say, we have gone TOO FAR when it comes to building ourselves up to our “friends” on facebook or twitter.  And yet, at times it may seem so subtle and perhaps “spiritual”, but in reality, it stinks of narcism.  When are we ever going to get it right?  Perhaps we never will…but I have to say, that there is one man I can think of, that  never exalted anyone but “THE ONE”.  Billy Graham.

The point is, well…humility.  Please…before we turn off the whole world and cause them to not want to come near anyone calling themselves a “Christian”.  Yuch.  What a bad name we are giving ourselves when all we do is promote our works in “His Name”.  Isn’t it by grace through faith we have been saved?
